2026 Chevrolet Trax FAQ

Your Questions About the 2026 Chevrolet Trax Answered

The 2026 Chevrolet Trax is one of the most popular vehicles on our lot in Sidney, primarily because of its aggressive redesign and low price point. However, because it looks so different from the previous generation, many buyers have questions about what is under the hood.

Here are the answers to the top questions we receive at Chesrown Chevrolet GMC.

Performance & Drivetrain

Does the 2026 Chevy Trax have All-Wheel Drive (AWD)?

No. All trim levels of the 2026 Trax (LS, 1RS, LT, 2RS, ACTIV) are exclusively Front-Wheel Drive (FWD).

Why? By removing the heavy rear differential and driveshaft required for AWD, Chevrolet was able to lower the price, increase fuel economy, and create a flat rear floor for more legroom.

Is the 1.2L Turbo engine powerful enough for highway driving?

Yes. While “1.2 Liters” sounds small, the turbocharger provides 162 lb-ft of torque that is available at low RPMs. This makes the Trax feel punchy around town and capable of merging onto I-75 without straining.

What is the towing capacity of the 2026 Trax?

The 2026 Chevrolet Trax is not rated for towing. Chevrolet does not recommend using it to pull a trailer. If you need to tow a small camper or jet ski, we recommend stepping up to the Chevrolet Equinox or Trailblazer, which can tow 1,500 lbs and 1,000 lbs respectively.

Does it have a CVT transmission?

No. This is a major advantage for the Trax. It uses a traditional 6-speed automatic transmission. This provides distinct, crisp shifts and avoids the “droning” noise often associated with the Continuously Variable Transmissions (CVTs) found in competitors like the Honda HR-V.

Size & Dimensions

Is the 2026 Trax bigger than the Trailblazer?

It depends on how you measure it.

  • Length: The Trax is longer than the Trailblazer by about 5 inches, which gives it more rear legroom.
  • Height: The Trax is lower and wider, giving it a sportier, wagon-like stance, while the Trailblazer sits taller like a traditional SUV.

How much cargo space does it have?

The 2026 Trax offers 25.6 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats. If you fold the rear seats flat, that expands to 54.1 cubic feet.

Technology & Features

Does the 2026 Trax come with Remote Start?

Yes. Remote Start is standard on the LT, 2RS, and ACTIV trims. It is available as an option on the LS and 1RS. You can also start the vehicle from anywhere using the myChevrolet mobile app.

Is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless?

Yes. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on every trim level. You do not need to bring a USB cord to connect your phone to the infotainment screen.

Does the 2026 Trax have a sunroof?

Yes. A power sunroof with a sunshade is available as part of the “Sunroof Package” on the LT, 2RS, and ACTIV trims.

Ownership & Safety

What kind of gas does the 2026 Trax take?

Despite being a turbocharged engine, the Trax runs on Regular 87 Octane gasoline. You do not need to pay extra for Premium fuel.

Is the Trax safe for new drivers?

Absolutely. Every 2026 Trax comes standard with Chevy Safety Assist, which includes:

  • Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Front Pedestrian Braking
  • Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning
  • Forward Collision Alert
  • IntelliBeam Auto High Beams
